Scott W. Cheatham, PT, DPT, Ph.D., OCS, ATC, CSCS is a Full Professor and Associate Chair in the Department of Kinesiology at California State University Dominguez Hills in Carson, California. Dr. Cheatham received his Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) and his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Physical Therapy. Dr. Cheatham is a Board Certified Orthopedic Physical Therapist (OCS) and a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC). He also holds several fitness certifications and is a certified ergonomic specialist. Dr. Cheatham is a practicing sports & orthopedic physical therapist with a private concierge practice in Southern California.
Dr. Cheatham is an international presenter and consultant for various healthcare and fitness organizations and has authored over 150 peer reviewed publications, textbook chapters, and continuing education courses on the topics of sports medicine, orthopedics, sports performance training, and health & fitness. He is the co-editor and contributing author of the textbook titled Orthopedic Management of the Hip and Pelvis. Dr. Cheatham is an active researcher with current interests in sports medicine, myofascial interventions, and the impact of fitness & wellness exercise strategies for all populations.
Dr. Cheatham has served as an associate editor for different peer reviewed journals including the International Journal of Athlete Therapy and Training and the NSCA Strength & Conditioning Journal. Currently, Dr. Cheatham is on the editorial board for the Journal of Sport Rehabilitation, Journal of the Canadian Chiropractic Association, and NSCA Personal Training Quarterly. He is also a manuscript reviewer for several peer reviewed journals.
Dr Cheatham is the managing board member of the NASM Scientific Advisory Board and holds the NASM-CPT/PES/CES/CNS certifications.

Guillermo Escalante, DSc, MBA, ATC, CSCS, FISSN is currently an Associate Dean and Professor of Kinesiology for the College of Natural Sciences at California State University, San Bernardino. He is an expert in the areas of sports nutrition, exercise science, and sports medicine and regularly presents his work at regional, national, and international conferences. He has published over 80 articles or abstracts in the fields of exercise science, sports nutrition, and sports medicine and over 58 articles in mainstream media such as Muscle & Fitness, Muscular Development, and Bodybuilding.com. Dr. Escalante currently serves as a co-editor in chief for the Journal of Fitness, Wellness, and Human Performance, an associate editor for the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition, a scientific advisor for the National Academy of Sports Medicine, Vice-President of the International Society of Sports Nutrition, and a scientific consultant for the Enhanced Games. He also serves as a sports nutrition and exercise science consultant to various companies in the fitness and sports supplement industry, has served as an expert witness, and was the lead subject matter expert for the National Academy of Sports Medicine’s Physique and Bodybuilding Coaching program.
In his role as an administrator, Dr. Escalante is Co-PI of a multi-million dollar US Department of Education grant aimed at enhancing Hispanic and underrepresented minority student success in STEM fields. He directs the Science Success Center (SSC) and spearheads STEM initiatives as part of his commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion within the College of Natural Sciences.
Prior to academia, Dr. Escalante owned and operated a physical therapy and personal training studio, a World Gym, and worked as an athletic trainer and strength & conditioning coach with the US Department of Defense and various high schools and colleges. He has also worked as an athletic trainer, coach, or consultant to athletes in the NFL, MLB, PGA, IFBB, and track & field Olympians.
Dr. Escalante earned a BS in athletic training with a minor in biology, an MBA with concentrations in marketing and healthcare management, and a doctorate in athletic training. He is certified as an athletic trainer through the National Athletic Trainer’s Association, a fellow and certified sports nutritionist through the International Society of Sports Nutrition, and a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength & Conditioning Association. In addition to his professional achievements, Dr. Escalante’s personal dedication to bodybuilding at the national level for over 2 decades further underscores his comprehensive understanding of fitness and performance enhancement.

Brian Sutton, EdD, MS, MA, NASM-CPT, PES, CES, CSCS is a 20-year veteran in the health and fitness industry, working as a personal trainer, author, content manager, and professor, and has overseen the development of several NASM programs, including Certified Personal Trainer, Certified Nutrition Coach, Certified Sports Nutrition Coach, Physique and Bodybuilding Coach, Weight Loss Specialization, and many more.
Dr. Sutton earned an EdD in kinesiology from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, an MA in sport and fitness management from the University of San Francisco, an MS in exercise science from PennWest University, and several certifications from NASM, ACSM, and NSCA. He served as an adjunct faculty member for PennWest University (2010–2018), teaching graduate-level courses in rehabilitation science, performance enhancement and injury prevention, and health and fitness.
